Constraining Black Hole Natal Kicks with Astrometric Microlensing

چکیده

Abstract Multiple pieces of evidence suggest that neutron stars receive large kicks when formed from the remnant a collapsing star. However, for whether black holes (BHs) natal is less clear, reliant on weak constraints analysis BH X-ray binaries and massive runaway walkaway stars. Here we show, first time, recent microlensing detections offer new method measuring BHs at birth. When identified through both photometric astrometric lensed star has known distance proper motion, mass, distance, motion can be determined. We study velocities components eccentric disrupted during supernova (SN), finding peculiar velocity correlates strongly with kick received birth, typically within 20%, even smaller than orbital velocity. Therefore, by or other compact object binary which core collapse, are in effect received. focus MOA-2011-BLG-191/OGLE-2011-BLG-0462, an isolated, single detected microlensing, consider range possible formation scenarios, including its disruption SN event. determine MOA-2011-BLG-191/OGLE-2011-BLG-0462 Milky Way orbit consistent thick-disk population, but if it was kinematic thin disk ≲100 km s −1 .

Astrometric Microlensing of Stars

Due to dramatic improvements in the precision of astrometric measurements, the observation of light centroid shifts in observed stars due to intervening massive compact objects (‘astrometric microlensing’) will become possible in the near future. Upcoming space missions, such as SIM and GAIA, will provide measurements with an accuracy of 4–60 μas depending on the magnitude of the observed stars...

Astrometric Microlensing with the GAIA satellite

GAIA is the “super-Hipparcos” survey satellite selected as a Cornerstone 6 mission by the European Space Agency. GAIA can measure microlensing by the brightening of source stars. For the broad G band photometer, the all-sky source-averaged photometric optical depth is ∼ 10−7. There are ∼ 1300 photometric microlensing events for which GAIA will measure at least one datapoint on the amplified lig...

Modeling Kicks from the Merger of Generic Black-hole Binaries

Recent numerical relativistic results demonstrate that the merger of comparable-mass spinning black holes has a maximum “recoil kick” of up to ∼ 4000 km s. However the scaling of these recoil velocities with mass ratio is poorly understood. We present new runs showing that the maximum possible kick parallel to the orbital axis does not scale as ∼ η (where η is the symmetric mass ratio), as prev...

Binary black hole mergers: Large kicks for generic spin orientations

We present results from several simulations of equal mass black holes with spin. The spin magnitudes are S=m2 0:8 in all cases, but we vary the spin orientations arbitrarily, inside and outside the orbital plane. We find that in all but one case the final merged black hole acquires a kick of more than 1000 km=s, indicating that kicks of this magnitude are likely to be generic and should be expe...

The Role of Primordial Kicks on Black Hole Merger Rates

Primordial stars are likely to be very massive ≥ 30 M⊙, form in isolation, and will likely leave black holes as remnants in the centers of their host dark matter halos in the mass range 10 − 10 M⊙. Such early black holes, at redshifts z∼ 10, could be the seed black holes for the many supermassive black holes found in galaxies in the local universe. If they exist, their mergers with nearby super...
